Choosing the right shoe for you

This is a toughie.  We pride ourselves on being able to help fit cycling shoes to the trickiest of feet, and there are some doozies out there.  It comes down to knowing what each shoes provides and how this effects the foot.

Not all shoes are created equal and no two feet are the same.  When we meet a pair of feet at The Pedaler, our Podiatrists will normally check a few important indicators.

Size - Easy to check with a Brannock device.

Width - Easy to check with a Brannock device.

Mobility - How mobile or immobile is the foot.

Foot type - Cavoid, Planus, skewed or twisted forefoot

Heel to Forefoot width difference - Some feet are like a rectangle, other more like a wedge.

Location of bunions (protuberances) and other lumpy bits

Toe shape (square or pointed)

History of pathology (pain, numbness etc)

Level of Cycling

Once we have established the foot type we are dealing with, then we can commence finding the best footwear solution.  As you can see, there is a lot more to it then throwing on some shoes and walking around the shop.

If we don't think the shoe will work with your foot type, then we just won't recommend it.  We are always building our library of shoe options for tricky feet and if we don't have it, we will get it in for you.

Once we have selected the right shoe for your foot type and activity level, we will then fit your cleats correctly.  This is just as important to prevent unnecessary forefoot loading complications.

Of course, we then have a huge array of socks to pair with those shoes.  Which colour?  That's a whole different blog.

Looking after the best of the best

Growing up we all have that dream of competing in sport at the highest level.  Whether its pulling on the green and gold jersey, a baggy green or the Tour De France. That never happened for me and still remains a dream but it is an amazing feeling to meet and talk to athletes of that calibre.

One of the things I enjoy most about working at The Pedaler and Cobra9 is when those athletes make time to come and see us for help.

I always endeavour to go the extra mile because they already have. It is humbling to consider the amount of hard work and dedication they have put in to get to where they are.

So here is a salute to a World Champion from a hubbard podiatrist.

Well done Maddie. Next stop Rio.

Go the Aussie tandem!

New Attaquer Lands Soon - All New core range on the way.

We are only a few weeks away from the new range of Attaquer hitting the shelves.  We have been very lucky to preview the range in Sydney and it's quite special.  A few neat little technical improvements paired with some epic new designs.

We will be running a release party for the new gear including an open invite to a pre launch ATQ / The Pedaler Bunchie (as it will be a morning reveal).  Keep an eye of Instagram and Facebook for more details.

The Pedaler, where more Attaquer is never quite enough.

The Pedaler Orthotic Lab // No gap on your 2nd set of orthotics.

When we moved locations from Brisbane's Northside to Milton last year, we decided that one of the most important components of our new layout would be an onsite orthotic lab.

Over time, more and more podiatry practices have started to outsource their orthotic work. We firmly believe that your Podiatrist needs to be on hand to make those important decisions regarding your orthotic prescription when your orthotics start to take shape.

With a lot of help from our friends at Milan Construction, we designed a sound proof (almost) orthotic lab to be build right in the centre of our new business.  This allows us to design, build and modify all our walking and cycling orthotics onsite.  It also gives us scope to build whatever we want whenever we want it.

We also store all of our foot molds for future use and replication.  All of our clients who have prescription orthotics are entitled to fund only orthotics in each subsequent calendar year after their initial prescription.  That means no gap orthotics for those that have applicable health insurance*.  We can then create bespoke options for more unusual footwear or replicate existing designs to make your morning rituals less of a hassle.

Make a time to see us today and see what kind of magic we can build for you.
