What is cycling podiatrY?

Cycling podiatry is a niche area of sports podiatry that deals specifically with the biomechanics of cycling and the relationship between these loading patterns and how that influences comfort and performance on the bike.  A cycling podiatric assessment will allow us to understand your foot shape and leg alignment and work out how to best reduce pressure points and potential overuse injuries on your bike.

A typical cycling podiatry consult will allow us to prescribe and fit cycling shoes.  We may also prescribe cycling orthotics to reduce hot spots and prevent an overuse injury through injurious loading.  Cycling orthotics are unique to cycling and need to be incredibly thin to fit well inside all cycling shoes.  The design features of a cycling orthotic also need to be prescribed to meet the demands of the pedal stroke, not the typical heel- toe ambulation features seen in a walking orthotic.  We are also able to decide where your cleats should be located and how to alter your bike to best suit your lower limbs.

We have spent many years as podiatrists immersed in the cycling industry to thoroughly understand the relationship between shoes, cleats, orthotics and bike fit to ensure we make you as comfortable and functional on the bike as possible.  Cycling podiatry is certainly not a commonly provided sports podiatry option given you need to 'live' in the cycling space to be truly effective.  At The Pedaler, we are geared towards the needs of cyclists with indoor trainers for assessments, test saddles, cycling shoes, stems and parts to provide comprehensive solutions.

Cycling is our passion, with over 20 years experience working with cyclists and multisport athletes, The Pedaler knows exactly how uncomfortable those hot spots and burning feet can be. Book now to discuss your cycling podiatry needs.
